Southern Ute Indian Tribe
IACAP Update 5
The Ignacio Area Corridor Access Plan (IACAP) has been completed and formally adopted by the four partner agencies – the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, Colorado Department of Transportation, Town of Ignacio, and La Plata County. The IACAP is available on the project website at http://www.southern-ute.nsn.us/planning.
This groundbreaking conceptual plan acts as a blueprint for corridor-wide improvements as the community prepares for expected growth. The plan addresses safety, traffic, pedestrian, parking, and aesthetic improvements that help create a unified look and feel for the corridor. The vision, based on significant public input, is welcoming to visitors and identifies access improvements that will help existing and future businesses.
Key items in the plan include a divided parkway to the north and south of town, as well as a pedestrian friendly downtown section with wider sidewalks and other amenities. Several intersections have been identified for major upgrades when growth and traffic require. The plan includes pedestrian sidewalks that Recommended early action items include a new traffic signal at the intersection of SH 172 (Goddard Ave.) and SH 151 to address major backups at peak times, as well as safety improvements at the intersection of Buck Hwy / La Boca Rd.
The plan offers a solid background of community support that allows the community to seek funds to implement the vision. As the community grows and local businesses expand or redevelop, people can have the assurance that an appropriate plan is in place to handle the traffic of tomorrow.
The IACAP is a joint effort of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, the Colorado Department of Transportation, the Town of Ignacio, and La Plata County.
