The Southern Ute Indian Tribal Council through its inherent rights of self-government, courts, bylaws and Constitution exercises and oversee the daily governmental operations of the Southern Ute Tribal Administration Affairs to preserve and increase tribal resources of the Southern Ute Indian Reservation for the benefit and protection of its enrolled membership. The Southern Ute Indian Tribal Council are empowered by the Tribal Constitution, Statutes of the United States under the regulation of the Department of the Interior, to regulate its own procedures by appropriate ordinances as approved by the same. The Southern Ute Indian Tribe is a federally recognized sovereign nation. "
