History And Background
Recognition
began to come to the Southern Ute veterans Association from a number of
Sources. In 1994 the Southern Ute Indian Tribal Council donated a park
located on the upper tribal campus to the association. this park has
since become know as "Veterans Park." Today, this park has a
history of it's own. It has housed and paid honor to the Vietnam
Veterans Moving Wall" and is the focal point for a number of community
based events. There is also a monument which serves as the center
piece of the park.
This
tribute is dedicated to all Southern Ute Indian Veterans who served
honorably in the Armed Services of the United States of America.
In 1995, the membership of the association had increased to the point that
it was felt that the time for formal tribal recognition was needed. The
members drafted a set of By-Laws to represent their organizations purpose
and leadership. It was here that the name of the "Southern Ute Veterans
Association" was formally adopted and with the Southern Ute Indian Tribal
Councils approval of the proposed By-Laws the association became official.
Beyond addressing the needs of Veterans and assisting them in the
procurement of their benefits the association is active in many community
functions. They are always willing to provide (at not cost) Military
services and Color Guards when asked to serve.
