The Range Division manages the use and conservation of rangelands on the Reservation.  This includes issuing grazing permits for designated range units and short-term grazing leases on assignments and Tribal land, treatments of tribal rangelands, and fence construction and maintenance.

The Reservation was classified as being in extreme or exceptional drought most of 2003.  This was also the first year of a five-year plan implemented by Tribal Council to allow Tribal rangelands to rest in order to recover from prolonged drought.  In compliance with the plan, no grazing was allowed on Tribal range units in 2003.
